Top 8 Side Hustles to Make $1000 from Home (2022)

Have you ever thought about what would happen if you were suddenly fired from your current job? We always tend to believe that it's never going to happen, but we know, deep inside that's a possibility. Even the cheapest flight has two engines. You need a backup to your current job. Period. And that's where side hustles come into the picture. A side hustle is a way to make money outside of your 9 to 5 job and is one way to reach financial freedom.

Your permanent job might be good to meet your daily requirements, but a side hustle can teach you something new, fund your next vacation, or maybe, who knows, become the next big thing. What do you have to lose? A few hours from aimlessly scrolling that Instagram or Netflix. So, In this blog, I will give you a list of the best side hustles that you can start from the comfort of your own home. So let's get started.

Before you pick one from the list and start working you have to ask yourself these three questions.

Does this idea fit my current schedule?

This will be done on your own time, outside of office hours. So you have to find the right balance between your full-time job and your side hustle so that both won't suffer. Plan and allocate a fixed time in your calendar daily to work on your side hustle. Do what you can and not what you want to. And don't stretch, especially in the starting stages. The idea is to build something long-term, not get burned out in 2 weeks.

Second, Does the idea align with my passions and interests?

Working 40 hours a week is enough to drain most people's energy. You need to love what you are doing to get that much-needed motivation. So when coming up with ideas, think not only about the skill set you have but also focus on something that you are passionate about. The more it feels like work, the less likely you will keep doing it.

The third question is, Is the idea financially viable?

This is not a hobby that we do in our free time. We are looking to trade our time and effort for money. Most side hustles aren't profitable right away, but it has to be financially viable over the long term.

For each side hustle I list here, I will explain how you can get started and make a revenue. Also, I will rate each of them based on three factors. 1. The money you have to invest initially 2. The effort required to run the side hustle, and 3. Possible Returns.

Content Creation

So the first one on the list is creating content on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. I may be a bit biased here, but this is a place where you can stretch your creative muscles to make millions. Of course, there is a beginner learning curve and stiff competition. But you don't have to reinvent the wheel to get noticed. Just find a niche that interests you and add your spice to what everyone else does.

Standing out from the noise is the key to success. If videos are not your thing, you can start a podcast and talk about something that interests you or share your knowledge. Once you build an audience, you can make money from showing ads, affiliate marketing, or even creating your brand to launch your own products or online courses. Many products work with micro influences with 100 1000s of followers, so you don't have to get big to start earning.

Initial Investment - One Coin

You are walking with a high-quality camera in your pocket. You just need to take your phone and start making content. Based on the need, you can gradually build the gear and improve the quality as time goes on. The production quality you need will depend on your content and your audience. Short Tip. If you can afford it, invest in a mic and not use the default phone one. Most people are willing to sit through lousy videos than terrible audio. So for the initial investment part, I will give a rating of one coin out of 3.

Effort

Now coming to the effort part, this is not easy. If it was easy, everyone would be a social media celebrity. But I also know creators who can instantly get into the flow and talk for hours without any preparation. But again, the effort you have to put into this depends on how knowledgeable you are in the field and the type of content you create. So I will give a rating of two coins out of three.

Possible Returns

Mr. Beast is a viral YouTuber, and he made 54 million dollars in 2021. 54 Million That is 54 and 6 zeroes in just one year. When it comes to YouTube sky is the limit. But remember that, this is not a get-rich-quick scheme, though. It takes time and practice. And your revenue depends on your niche and the number of views you get. So I will give a rating of three out of three considering the long term

Blogging

Blogging is not as it used to be 10 years ago, but this isn't dead yet. Since it has a very low entry barrier, there is plenty of competition in the field. But if you can offer a unique perspective, there is still a lot of scope for success. Also, there is the freedom and flexibility it provides. You can work from anywhere. You just need a laptop and an internet connection. Also, you have the freedom to write about anything under the sun. You are passionate about finance. Write about that. You are passionate about cooking. Start a cooking blog. You can start writing by creating your website or using a blogging platform such as Medium or Substack and earn through their partner program. And like with YouTube, you can generate revenue through Google AdSense, affiliate marketing, or promoting your products.

Initial Investment

This is one side hustle that is easy to start with. But If you are planning to create your website, consider the domain fees and the hosting fees. I will rate it to 1 Coin.

Effort

You can write in your free time, and If you enjoy writing, this won't be much of a struggle. But keep in mind that your growth depends on how much time you invest in writing and publishing content on your blog. So on the effort front, I will give a 2 out of 3 rating.

Possible returns

Like YouTube, Blogging income takes some time to build up. Still, it easily has the highest earning potential of anything on this list. Once you get it up and running, it can potentially earn you upwards of $1000 a month. Entrepreneurs like Tim Ferris, who wrote the 4-hour work week, started his journey writing blogs and now have a net worth of 100 million dollars. Another example is Ramit Sethi, who started with a single blog and made around 5 million in one week by selling a course on his blog. But considering the competition out there, I will give a rating of 2 out of 3 for returns.

Online Courses

Teaching is said to be one of the most rewarding professions. Everyone has something to teach the world. You might be a fantastic cook. You might be good at a musical instrument. If you are an expert on a particular topic, there's probably an audience willing to pay for your knowledge. With platforms such as Udemy and Skillshare, it has become easy for anyone to connect with learners. The beauty of this side hustle is that you can make hundreds of dollars every month passively with minimal effort once you get an online course up. They'll be making money while you sleep!

Initial Investment

Just like YouTube, you are good to go by recording using your phone. So you don't need much of an investment to start with. So for the initial Investment part, I will rate 1 coin.

Effort

There is some initial effort to research and have the information packaged and presented simply. But once your online course is created and listed online, you can sell it again and again and again without any extra effort. So for the effort factor, I'll give two coins.

Possible Return

You have the option to charge hourly or per course. It depends on you. With online courses, you are seeing a potential earning in the range of $10 to $1000 or more per course sold. So considering, I will give a rating of 2/3 Coins.

Online Freelancing

Welcome to the Gig Economy. Freelancing has become one of the best side hustle ideas and saw 33% Growth in 2020. Thanks to the pandemic and the boost in digital infrastructure. Working from anywhere has become the new norm. You can start by building a portfolio and finding jobs on freelancing websites like Fiverr, Craigslist, or Upwork. You may not be able to earn a lot initially. Still, your portfolio will become more noticeable as you do more gigs and get more good reviews.

Pro tip: Try to build a network with clients and others in your industry using Twitter, slack, or other social platforms. This will help you to get more gigs. Now let's see some of the jobs that are popular on this platform nowadays.

The online business sector is growing a lot and, virtual assistants are in huge demand. The task of a VA is to render administrative support to companies, and you can earn somewhere between $15 – $35 an hour. Another popular gig is becoming an editor for YouTube TikTok, or any other social media. YouTubers making 10000 per month will happily pay 100 dollars to edit one video. If you can manage to do 4 videos per month, it would be 400$ per month in your pocket.

This is one skill anyhow can learn by doing a course or watching some YouTube videos. If you want to learn some beginner editing skills, you can find the link to my Skillshare course in the description below. Now, Social media has become an integral part of our lives, whether we like it or not.

There is a good possibility that you are already using some sort of social media and have a pretty good understanding of it. In this day and age, it is required for businesses to have an excellent social media presence, and many companies struggle with it. Whether it's a technical limitation or a lack of time. And that's where social media managers come in. You can reach out to small businesses and offer to create and manage content for a small monthly fee.

Initial Investment

I will give a rating of two coins out of three for initial investment. Because the money you have to invest depends on the service you offer. For example, you might have to invest in a good laptop to be a graphic designer. So it depends on the gig.

Effort

Here you are directly trading your time for money. You will have to work hard to offer better services than the competitors. So I will give a rating of 3 coins.

Possible returns

Fiverr helped give birth to the Gig Economy and is known for its $5 price tag. But you can easily upscale and make around $500 to $2000 a month from freelancing jobs. Remember that you're competing with thousands of other service providers, so making money here might take a little time. So considering that I will give a rating of 2 out of 3

Sell Digital products

A digital product is a non-physical asset that exists only in the digital world. We're talking about things like software, ebooks, stock photos, videos, templates, etc. And if you are skilled in creating one of them, this is a great way to make money. If you are a musician, you can create and sell your music on platforms like Epidemic Sound and Artlist. If you are good at website design, you can create templates for WordPress websites. If you're a photographer, you can click pictures, and sell on stock photo sites such as shutter stock and earn between 25 to 38 cents for each download. That may not be much, but those cents can add up to an extra couple hundred or thousand dollars a month.

It would be more profitable if you could find an area without much competition, like creating notion templates. Notion is a note-taking app that has gained a lot of importance recently. Jason Chin, a 19-year-old, made 11k selling notion templates. And now, with NFTS, your digital goods have more potential to earn money. Also, unlike selling physical products, you don't have to stock them, so there's no need for physical premises or warehouses to store them.

Initial Investment

Initial Investment depends mainly on what kind of digital product you are creating. In most cases, you can get through with a laptop and some software tools, but sometimes you might have to invest in devices like a quality camera. So I'll put 2/3

Effort

The amount of effort required also varies according to the product. But again, you are flexible here. You only have to write an ebook once, but you can sell it a thousand times without any further cost or effort. The key is to find the right products to sell and know the supply and demand in the market. So I'll put 2/3

Possible returns.

This is a scalable business. You have to put in the effort once, and the return will be based on how many units you can sell. The Merge NFT was sold for 91.8 million. So there is no limit on the amount of money you can earn here. But in the beginner phase, expect to earn somewhere between a few 100 dollars and 1,000 per month. So I'll put 2/3

Sell Craft Products

If you prefer to work with your hand rather than using a computer and are into the crafty artistic side, a viable option is Etsy. Etsy offers a platform to sell homemade crafts or art for the online market. This is a vast marketplace and has an extensive customer base. You can sell paintings, embroidery, collages, and ornaments; you can make and sell all sorts of items in your spare time. You just need to have a creative mind and interest in making handmade goods. Then this can easily turn into a money-making hobby. A pro tip: Try to create unique products with a story to tell. If I say this was the watch that saved my life once, it suddenly becomes more valuable and interesting.

Initial Investment

To make physical products, you need the physical tools and the raw materials. And you can't just click and copy like for the digital products. So this is a side hustle that can require some sort of initial Investment. So I'll put a rating of 3 coins.

Effort

Creating handmade products also takes time, so I'll give a 3/3 rating on the effort side too. But if you enjoy the process, then no effort is high effort.

Possible Returns

You could earn nothing, or it could be a lucrative side hustle – making $1,000-$3,000 per month or much more, depending on what you sell and how you execute. So earning potential, I would say 2 coins.

Dropshipping

You can try to drop shipping if you like the marketing and operation parts more than the creative side. Dropshipping is when you sell items on a website, but you don't hold any inventory or stock the products yourself. You just have to set up your store, price your products, and market the business. When someone orders a product from you, you order the product directly from the manufacturer. The manufacturer delivers the product directly to your customer, and you pocket the difference. That's how it works.

Here you have two options: build your website or use a service like Shopify or Amazon. Shopify is a subscription-based e-commerce platform that you can use to set up and run your e-commerce store. The good thing about Shopify is that it is built for the average user, not skilled developers. It's simple to add products, create discounts, and process orders.

Initial Investment

This is a side hustle that needs some investments upfront. If you plan to set up your online store, you will have to account for the costs related to creating and hosting your website. If you go with an external platform like Shopify, you need to take the subscription services and pay a fee per sale. You may also have to spend some money on marketing and advertising. So I'll give it a 3/3 rating.

Effort

There is some initial effort required to find a niche, the products, and set up the online store. But after that, it's pretty passive because you're not actively managing or shipping orders — Shopify does this for you. You will need to run traffic to your site and maintain it. So I'll give a rating of 2/3

Possible returns

If you want to make a lot of cash in a short amount of time, dropshipping is probably not the best bet. But if you have the time and money to invest initially, dropshipping can pay off for you and turn into a great side business. Experienced drop shippers make up to $100,000 per year, but with the right supplier and branding, any beginner can make more than 1000$/month, beginner can make more than 1000$/month,

Selling items on eBay, Facebook Market Place, Craigslist

The final thing on the list is something anyone can do without any needed skillset. Almost all of us have something that we don't use anymore or sitting in a closet, collecting dust. If you can take a decent picture, write a short, compelling description, and put it on one of the trading websites, there will be some takers.

If you don't have many things to sell, you can flip things online. So People are giving away a lot of items for free or at low prices. If you can take an ad from Craiglist and, polish the photos and description a bit, post and sell it on another platform, you can pocket a small commission. You don't even have to go and pick it up. You can ask the seller to send it directly to the buyer or ask the buyer to pick it up.

Initial Investment:

This one doesn't require any initial investment. You just need your phone or laptop. So I'll give a 1/3 rating.

Effort:

There is some effort required to search for the right products and deals and then post the ad. But nothing that can't be done on a lazy weekend. So effort-wise, I will give 2/3 coins.

Returns:

This is not a constant revenue source, and there is no guarantee on how much money you can make. The problem here is you can't scale it beyond a point. But this can earn you around 100 bucks each month. So for the returns, I will say one coin.

Every Side hustle requires some effort from you. An easier way to earn a passive income is by investing in the stock market. If you want to get started, you can watch this, where I explain the critical stock market terms and some equities you can begin with. I would like it if you could visit my blog again and share it with people who may need it.
